The Bethany Academy Junior Class is already busy getting ready for Valentine’s Day. The Junior Class will be offering an assortment of Valentine’s Day treats to make Valentine’s Day lots of fun for everyone!
Parents and students may purchase small gifts to be given to their own children, classmates, friends, teachers, and office staff. Do you have other children/students not currently attending Bethany? No problem! Just order extra gifts and they will be delivered to your Bethany student to be distributed at home. Gifts will be delivered directly to each classroom on Friday February 16th.
Completed order forms and payment must be placed in the Valentine’s Cheer box just inside the main office door or given directly to one of the Junior Class Officers as listed below. Cash or checks to “Bethany Academy” are both acceptable forms of payment. Elementary students may give completed orders directly to their classroom teachers. Secondary students may also give their completed orders to any of the Junior Class Officers; Kyra Anderle, Sam Hull, Hannah Hilgenberg, or Katy Miller.
All orders are due no later than Friday February 9th!

An Open Invitation:
Hillside Church has started a monthly Saturday respite program called Buddy Break for parents who have a special needs child and his/her siblings. The need is tremendous, and very soon after announcing the program, we had a waiting list of parents who desperately need a 3-hour break from their intense care-taking responsibilities to just regroup. We would like to be able to help as many of these parents as possible, and are hoping to partner with the Bethany Academy community to increase our volunteer base to open up more spots for more children.
Would you consider being one of those volunteers, or Buddies, to a special needs child or a sibling? No experience is necessary, and training is provided. Adults and teens 14 and above are welcome. Sometimes family members even like to serve together. We will generally be providing the program the third Saturday of each month at Hillside; you’d meet at 9 am and be a Buddy for a special needs child or a sibling from 10 am-1 pm. You are not required to attend every month, but can sign up when it works out in your schedule.
Parents with a special needs child find their lives can be very stressful and overwhelming, and being able to just run errands or sit in a restaurant, or even just to take a shower, can be difficult. Due to the stress, the divorce rate for parents of special needs children is very high, and most do not belong to a faith community because many churches do not have programs for their special needs child. The parents who have been served by the Buddy Break program are immensely grateful and often with tears in their eyes mention they just can’t believe that people would be so kind to help them in this way.
Thank you for considering being a Buddy for one of these VIP kids—being the hands and feet of Jesus. We are fortunate to be partnering with a faith-based national program called Nathaniel’s Hope, which provides the Buddy training and an online application process. A background check will also need to be done for each adult volunteer. If you have interest in starting a Buddy Break program at your own church, we’d love to talk to you as well! Contact: BuddyBreak@nullhillsidemn.org or call Amanda, Hillside’s Buddy Break Coordinator, at 612-889-5543.
