Career Counseling

Our new Bloomington Public Schools counselor, Natalie Swiler, will be meeting with the 8th grade class every Friday this month from 11:43-12:28 in the Spanish room.  She will guide the 8th graders in a career assessment activity, help them research career interests, and teach the students about the various types of postsecondary education.  Natalie will also be teaching the students about behaviors that lead to academic success in high school.
Natalie will also be meeting with the 9th grade class during first period History on April 6th, 13th, 27th and May 4th.  She will lead students in a discussion of SMART goals, guide them through a career assessment activity, assist them in researching careers of interest, and teach on the value of a postsecondary degree.

I am excited for the 8th & 9th graders to have this opportunity…..check in with them on Friday evenings to see what they learned! Regards, John Merry Academic Dean

Secondary PSEO

Most of you are aware that Bethany Academy has significantly revised its PSEO Policy (attached).  In order to more fully explain the policy and help parents/students determine if the program might be a good fit for them, I will be holding two Info/Q&A sessions on Thursday, April 19th.  The first meeting will be at 3PM for those who are able to attend right after school, and the second meeting will be at 6:30 PM for those who wish to come in the evening.  Both meetings will be in my room (C155, closest room to the office).

Due to space limitations, please RSVP by replying to this email if you plan to attend (please tell me which meeting you plan to attend and the number attending).  If necessary, I will schedule another meeting soon after April 19th.

 Naturalization Ceremony at BA

The Civics class is diligently working to plan and host a naturalization ceremony to be held at the school Friday, April 13 at 10 am. After attending a ceremony held at Bloomington Civic Plaza (a first for many of them!), they were inspired to get more involved in the plight of immigrants in this country. They are working on the numerous details of planning this type of event and are excited to see 50 people walk into this building as immigrants and leave as citizens. We would love for the larger school community to join us for this event but please be aware, space may be limited. You can contact Jennie Hohnstadt ( if you are interested in the details or would like to help during the event.
